Holloway
Terrace Ladies Auxiliary
700 West Avenue
New Castle, DE 19720

History of the Ladies Auxiliary
The
auxiliary was established on the Fifth Day of March, 1922, with the
main purpose of helping the fire company to raise money. The first
meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Isabelle Klabe, with ten charter
members present. The first president was Mrs. Catherine Hardy and
meetings were held at the homes of various members until the fire
company built its first fire hall.
Over the years, the Ladies Auxiliary has gradually expanded its efforts
to encompass not just fundraising, but active involvement in the work
of the fire company and in many types of community betterment projects.
In 1931, the Holloway Terrace Fire Hall was the scene of the founding
meeting of the New Castle County Ladies Auxiliary and one of the
Holloway Terrace members, Mrs. Alice Stevenson, was named first County
Auxiliary President. The Auxiliary now has 79 members and nine life
members, as well as a Junior Girls' Auxiliary for girls aged twelve
through eighteen.
